Amended--Rosebud Woman Sentenced in Drug Distribution and Conspiracy Case

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rosebud woman charged with Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute Marijuana was sentenced on August 13, 2012, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Marie Whirlwind Soldier, a/k/a Geraldine Marie Whirlwind Soldier, age 61 , was sentenced to one month in prison, one month in a community corrections facility, and four months of home confinement, to be followed by 2 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Whirlwind Soldier was indicted by a federal grand jury on November 8, 2011. She pled guilty to the charges on May 23, 2012.      

Marie Whirlwind Soldier and others were involved in a marijuana distribution conspiracy that began in January 2011. The drug quantity attributed to Marie Whirlwind Soldier, based on her role in the conspiracy, was at least 1 kilogram, but less than 2.5 kilograms, of marijuana. 

This case was investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case.

Whirlwind Soldier will report to the United States Marshal’s Service on October 8, 2012, to begin serving her prison sentence.
